A great deal of planning is required when you are seeking to develop an effective website. After strategic planning, we are ready to begin production of your project.
A website is developed from a still image, a graphic representation of what your site will look like when it is complete, to a fully functioning website. It sounds uncomplicated, yes? And it would be, if you wanted a boring static site without any interest whatsoever. If you wanted a site with navigation and other buttons that didn't interact with your users needs, if you were OK with a site that would work in some browsers and failed completely in others—and were satisfied with a website with cool flash content that didn't offer an alternative to users who choose not to use flash or other scripting languages, your site would be really simple to make.
We want your site to work perfectly on outdated browsers and be completely usable for the rare user who chooses not to make use of the cool technology available today. We also really like the idea of a website that is accessible to everyone. We are referring not only to people who choose to ignore current technology, but to people who require a reading device to access your site or are unable to hear audio content. Many kinds of really cool stuff (please humor the technical terminology) that you can offer on your site can really limit usability to people who are visually or hearing impaired. With a bit more effort, we can make your site friendly for everyone without providing you with a page that is visually or audibly boring.
In short, please be patient. You will be contacted any time design questions come up, or working examples of your site are available for review. If you are wondering what is taking so long and are feeling left out of the development process, click here for an idea of what's going on, or contact us and we'll fill you in.
Building out a website is time-consuming. As we don't use old-school tables to create sites and don't resort to templates and other 'cheats', you can expect to wait a bit for us to make everything perfect. This being the case, we don't recommend purchasing your domain space or name until we are close to being ready to go live with your site. You don't get stuck starting off your annual fees by watching us work out the alignment of your site, and we don't stress unduly. As such, your site will initially be built out on our server. After we send you an invite to check design-in-progress, you will know exactly where the work is taking place and will be able to follow your site's progress.
This works almost universally (almost). If you are checking your site repeatedly (without an invite from us), please keep in mind that you may see something unexpected. To test for cross-browser compliance, we may do things that can crash the entire site, or make the site look really odd, or make the site completely inoperable. To insure a crash-free site, we may create issues that cause your browser to operate very slowly and these events are intended to cause problems. Fair warning: you are welcome to watch the development of your site, but please don't stress if you see something unexpected. If your site looks terrible, is not functional and/or crashes your browser, please don't take it personally. The final project will rock, we promise!
