This was created for a website offering artwork for sale. To offer the artwork at very high resolutions, allowing customers to view the work in detail using basic website design would have slowed the function of this site down to a ridiculous degree. We wanted to offer close-up inspection of the work to be available to the the viewer without compromising loading times, and also wanted to create motion, interactivity, and interest for each piece, so the viewer could watch the work 'unfold' before their eyes, aiding in an attachment to each piece.

While Flash alone is an excellent development tool, and is very effective for adding motion and interactive elements to a website, a flash element's function is dependent on size. If a flash element is large, it takes a long time to load. If you add large images to a flash file, you get a large flash element. In short, creating website images for this site using flash alone would make the site just as slow as if we were to add them using basic html.

The majority of the content for this site was created using video software. This allows very large image resolutions to be viewed through a flash player without bogging down the website's loading times. Though there is no 'video' involved, this strategy allows for close-up examples of the work that the viewer is able to review at their own pace.
